A small country in Central Europe, situated in the middle of the Alps, it borders Germany, Austria, Liechtenstein, Italy and France. Switzerland is famous for its mesmerising Alpine scenery, and naturally winter sports, both for the quality of the Alpine and cross-country ski areas and the charm of the resorts, are its forte. Recognised worldwide for its watchmaking, banking system and chocolate and cheese production, Switzerland likes to collect particularities such as political neutrality and compulsory military service for all citizens. Most of its charming towns have perfectly preserved medieval neighbourhoods. Neuchâtel, with its famous castle, the capital Bern and the emblematic Clock Tower, the wooden bridge in Lucerne, the modern and artistic city of Basel, cosmopolitan Geneva, luxurious Zurich, aristocratic and charming Montreux and its international jazz festival, are some of the names to remember.
