The islands of São Tomé and Príncipe, about 140 kilometres apart, are located in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 300 kilometres from the West African coast, on the imaginary equator. The terrain is very rugged, with altitudes of over a thousand metres, reaching over 2,000 metres at the peak of São Tomé, the highest point in the archipelago. The islands present an imposing and majestic setting resulting from the exuberant tropical vegetation that constitutes their main landscape reference.
