The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, a historic Arab nation at the crossroads between Asia, Africa and Europe, on the banks of the River Jordan, is a small country with a third of its territory occupied by desert. Endowed with a lexical colour panel: the Red Sea, Petra the rose, Amman the white..., it has been a crossing point for millennia.

Its human presence dates back to the dawn of civilisation, and it was home to some of humanity's first settlements. For millennia it was occupied by dynasties of builders, whose cultural and historical heritage is still recorded in the traditions and customs of its people and in the wealth of archaeological remains scattered throughout the country.

There's no escaping Petra, one of the most spectacular archaeological remains in the world, one of the 7 New Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the imagination of most travellers. But Jordan is also synonymous with the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth; the Wadi Rum Desert, the magical desert of Lawrence of Arabia; the ancient Royal Road, built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian; desert castles and Crusader fortresses; Mount Nebo, the place where the prophet Moses first saw the Promised Land; the biblical River Jordan, the place where Jesus was baptised by John the Baptist; the photogenic Roman ruins of Jerash and the vibrant city of Amman.

Jordan transports us to a bubble of peace, a serene atmosphere that breaks the image of the turmoil of neighbouring countries, a paradise where we feel safe and welcomed. To visit Jordan is to experience a world out of books!
